Operation Write Home

I am currently making cards for Operation Write Home, which sends blank handmade cards to deployed servicemen and women. OWH is an amazing organization that ships thousands of cards each month to our nation's Heroes so they have something to write home on. Please check out the tag on the sidebar for more information on this inspiring mission. Please join me in supporting our men and women who sacrifice for us all.

ODBD June 2015 Challenge - Missing You

The ODBD challenges will be over soon with the closing of OWH. This month the challenge is to make Missing You cards.  I've made a bunch of more "Christmas-ish" Missing You cards and will be posting them soon as well.  I just really haven't had any time for posting so this weekend I might be playing catch up.  :)

Memorial Day Blog Hopping Celebration

I am enjoying the blog hop for OWH and I'm getting some cards done so we can finish strong!  I actually made some Christmas cards yesterday for the box.  I had stocked up on Christmas supplies for the year and figured I had better get them out.  I made 8 of these.

I know that simple Thinking of You cards are always needed and this was such a pretty shiny piece of paper and the 3-D flower got some added twinkle to hopefully make someone feel special.

This one was a bit hard to photograph because the butterfly is a giant vellum die cut by K&Co.  It is matte finish but the flash from the camera kept creating a serious flare.  It looks much better in person.  Off to go make more cards!

More for Memorial Day

You know, I suppose there is nothing like some solitary time with paper and bling.  You need to zoom in on this paper and see all the wet embossing, it is awesome!  Heck, how can you make a bad card with THAT paper?
These 2 are my contribution to the "Oldie Moldie" category.  That was an old 8.5"x11" piece I found in with some other stuff.  Nice paper.  Should have used it years ago.

And then there were these "I love you" cards as well.  Pretty paper is my best friend!  I'm done cutting for tonight since I have lost all my natural light.  I think this is a great hop!  I'll be back at it again tomorrow.  Good night all!

OWH - Memorial Day Blog Hop 2015

I can't believe that it is already the end of May and that this is the final OWH Memorial Day Blog Hop.  This was a big day at my house.  I was "given" the whole 3 days off from wifey duties to cut and paste and watch the flinkets fly!  My husband was very supportive of the blog hop weekends like this.  He would often come in and ask about what challenges we were doing or what theme or sometimes just give me the thumbs up for something I had made.  It sure is empty without him here to cheer me on....

I know he would still be proud of my commitment to making the cards for our Heroes.  So, I'm going to make cards until the last day.  I had just gotten my card making area sort of set up when I read the news that OWH was going to be declaring Mission Accomplished this year.

I'm so glad to hear that many of our Heroes are finally out of harm's way and back with their friends and families.  I have to admit I cried.  For them and for the change coming.  OWH has been a lifeline to the outside world for me.  I lived out very rural on a farm and OWH has been my sanity, my community and place to laugh and grow.

Sandy and her team of extraordinary volunteers have done an amazing job to help keep Heroes and their families connected over the miles.  They have built a wonderful community of cardmakers with common purpose.  I am so thrilled and moved to tears that I have been a part of this amazing effort.

So, I'm here making cards, hopping along and loving every minute of it, trying to help OWH FINISH STRONG!

May ODBD Challenge - Embossing

The ODBD Challenge for this month is Embossing.  I always love how dry embossing looks so fancy and adds so much texture to a card.  It is an awesome way to help get those scraps of DP used up as well.

ODBD April Challenge - Masculine

The Our Daily Bread Designs challenge for April is to make masculine cards.  I think this is how all of our Heroes feel.  I'm still working out of a few boxes but glad to put ink to paper!

Birthday Sentiments

I just love this sentiment stamp!  I think it is so classy.  Yep, you guessed it, using up those K&Co 3-D stickers covered in Dimensional Magic.  (I'm trying to get back into the swing of posting.) Yay!

OWH ODBD March Challenge - Sentiments

Hello!  This month's challenge from Our Daily Bread Designs is to make cards for our Heroes with the sentiment being the focal point.  Which works for me since I don't do much in the way of images and coloring.

I just love this stamp that I picked up at Hobby Lobby!  The 3-D embellishments are more of the K&Co stash and all have had shine added with Dimensional Magic.

Card Fronts to Cards

From time to time I make card fronts out of a bunch of leftovers so that on days when I have no mo-jo I can just add a sentiment and maybe an embellishment and I have a card.

These cards are some of those card fronts that I had stashed away.

The great thing is that a bunch of these fronts are not just singles but are multiples so I can get more made in the short amount of time I have to spread my stuff on the bed and then have to clean it all back up again.

All these needed were sentiments and liners and they were good to go!

I must have been in a masculine themed mood.

These were all made from scraps to card fronts to cards.

ODBD - February Challenge - Animals

Wow, I can see from my last post that it has been awhile.  It is just so dang hard to make cards on my bed, yeah the one I'm sleeping in, not a spare one.  I don't think I have ever missed making one for the monthly ODBD challenge and so here it is.  How about some fish???

ODBD January Challenge - Any Hero Card

What a great way to start off 2015 at Operation Write Home than to have our challenge for ODBD to be making Any Hero cards!  The background on this is a bit glossy and the twinkly stars are all stickers  mounted on cardstock and then popped.  Also the "U's" in USA are shiny and it is part of a cardstock border sticker from K&Co.

OWH Top 14 of 2014

The following is a collection of some of my favorite cards that I made during 2014.  This past year was very hard as my husband passed away in April and my favorite aunt (like a second Mom) passed away 30 days later.  So much has happened in these 8 months and most of it NOT good at all so I am quite surprised that I have 14 cards to post for this blog hop.  I hope you like these as much as I liked making them for our deployed Heroes!

These scrap cards were inspired by Seongsook and I loved mixing and matching all the papers.

OWH Sketch #164, kind of a masculine hello card.

What's not to love about patriotic Any Hero cards?

This one was from the OWH Cardbowl celebrating Superbowl weekend.

OWH sketch #218, I love that the papers did all the work!

In honor of my husband you used to always critique and encourage my cardmaking.

I know this one is fairly simple but it IS the only image that I hand colored this year.  I love this stamp!

This one started out as OWH sketch #152 and then took a wander.  I do rather like it!

This one was nuts!  The fall leaves were thin stickers that I mounted on cardstock and then cut out.... yeah, I made several of these..... took forever but I really did like them!

This was actually made from scraps.  I loved all the swirly patterns and colors.

More scrappy cards inspired by Cindy.

For me, kids cards are always a challenge but this one was extra fun to make.

On this one I liked all the bits and textures.

And last but not least, my FAV card of the holiday season filled with sparkle and bling!
