Operation Write Home

I am currently making cards for Operation Write Home, which sends blank handmade cards to deployed servicemen and women. OWH is an amazing organization that ships thousands of cards each month to our nation's Heroes so they have something to write home on. Please check out the tag on the sidebar for more information on this inspiring mission. Please join me in supporting our men and women who sacrifice for us all.

ODBD January Challenge - Any Hero Card

What a great way to start off 2015 at Operation Write Home than to have our challenge for ODBD to be making Any Hero cards!  The background on this is a bit glossy and the twinkly stars are all stickers  mounted on cardstock and then popped.  Also the "U's" in USA are shiny and it is part of a cardstock border sticker from K&Co.

OWH - ODBD Challenge - August 2014

Good Sunday morning!  The ODBD challenge for August has been posted on the Stars and Stamps blog and is asking for cards with stars.  I love cards with stars much like I love cards with snowflakes.  Since there is no Sunday Sketch this week I might just work on some MORE cards with stars.

The challenge for this week is a color challenge of red, white and blue and to make an Any Hero card.  This is one of my favorite sentiments by Paper Inspirations.

MWT - Any Hero Card with Stars

I think pretty much the Any Hero cards I've made lately all have stars on them.  It just seems right to have some stars for our Heroes.   Check out the glossy gel letters!  :)

OWH Midweek Throwdown - Any Hero Card

The Midweek Throwdown for this week can be found on the Stars & Stamps blog, here.  Continuing with the July patriotic themes I made this one with shiny stickers for maximum effectiveness of the word Hero.  I know this looks similar to another one I made recently but I had more of the circle flags and the star paper so I decided to NOT add to the scrap basket.  :)  Edit:  The circle flags were a 3-d border strip that I believe is K&Co, it was mixed in with other things in my patriotic supply bin.  I just cut off the number of circles I wanted for each card.  They really were nice since the stripes are all shiny like the Hero sticker letters.

4th of July VCMP - Challenge #2

The second challenge of the day is hosted by Michelle and is to make a Thank You card to send to the Heroes.  She also asked for ink spray technique but I don't have any ink sprays so I just went with patriotic papers and embellishments.  The bell is popped for added interest and will hopefully put a smile on the face of a Hero!

OWH - MWT Any Hero Card with a Flag

Today the Midweek Throwdown for Operation Write Home is to make an Any Hero card with a flag on it.  As we approach our nation's biggest celebration we all need to be mindful of the Heroes that away from home.  (The base of the card is actually oatmeal... not sure why that doesn't show up right... hm?)

ODBD January 2014 Challenge - Stripes!

Good afternoon and Happy New Year to all!  ODBD continues to be a strong partner with OWH in sponsoring the shipping of 2 boxes a month for any month that OWH cardmakers post 50 cards to the link.  This month the challenge is stripes.  How about stars and stripes?  I know the picture doesn't show it but the stripes are all shiny red.  Thanks ODBD!

Midweek Throwdown - Seeing Stars!

I've got some time today to catch up on some posts and make a few cards so here goes!  This week's Midweek Throwdown at Operation Write Home is called Seeing Stars.

And as you would guess we are making cards that have stars.  My favorite star cards are for Heroes and children.  Today I'm doing the Hero cards.

2nd Parade of Leftovers for Today

It seems that I have to bunch up my posts as I have time.  So, here is my 2nd Parade of Leftovers for today.

I had enough to make 2 of these.  I love this very old stamp as it makes most any leftovers look good!

This one is also using Oldie Moldie paper.

The die cut was found in an old folder as well.  It is popped for some dimension.

I even got a few Any Hero cards made using the digi from Operation Write Home.

Stay tuned!  More on the way!  Have a great day and thanks for visiting!

OWH July Design Bootcamp

The Design Bootcamp for July was entitled Get Your Priorities Straight and has to do with choosing colors for our cards.  We were to choose from a posted 3 color combo using the proper percentage of each color and I chose blue (60%), tan (10%) and red (30%).  The card base is a bit more oatmeal than tan but I think it works.

VCMP Challenge #3 - Selective Embossing

Wow!  Was this a challenge???  I think so!  Hosted by Beth L., who gave wonderful instructions on how to do this by the way, mine was a bit of trial and error.  Here is a note, I used cardboard from a packing box and they have air pockets that once run through the Big Kick, was not the same thickness as it started out.  After several tries and it just kept getting worse so I took the "flops" and glued them to the cardboard for the added thickness it needed.

The folder is from The Paper Studio, the stamp is Paper Inspirations and the ribbon is Offray.

Thank you to Sybrina for hosting this challenge that is to make Christmas cards for a kid and one for a Hero. It is always a pleasure to make cards for both!

OWH Sketch #125

This week's sketch is great for using up some of my sticker alphabet that doesn't seem to get much love.  The "O" is an epoxy sticker from EK Success.  I made this one in the evening and the lighting was less than desirable so the shiny red paper I used is more like pink in the daylight.  Oh, well, this would work for one of our female Heroes!  I've got more stickers left on this sheet so more Hero cards are in the making!  :)

Hero Cards

It is odd how I can be just stumped over making a card and then Poof!  It's a card!  I know this one isn't fancy but, my toys and supplies are all packed up for moving and I had to dig into a few things just to get this stuff.  The gold and blue stars were punched from shiny paper.  I made 6 and if I can find more of the stars paper I will make another set.  This will give me some to write in while on the road.
