Operation Write Home

I am currently making cards for Operation Write Home, which sends blank handmade cards to deployed servicemen and women. OWH is an amazing organization that ships thousands of cards each month to our nation's Heroes so they have something to write home on. Please check out the tag on the sidebar for more information on this inspiring mission. Please join me in supporting our men and women who sacrifice for us all.

Time for some Thank-You's

It is time for some Thank You cards.  This is one of 2 made with a wintery theme of snow flakes, poinsettias and yummy velvet ribbon.
The sentiments for all of these are from a packet of Elle's Studio square tags and were all popped.

I tried to make them for both male and female givers and receivers.

Love you - Thank you!

Oh, it seems like forever since I posted anything.  I got a bit down with all the struggles that seem to have no end.  But!  I did manage to get some cutting and pasting done.  I also did some cutting and painting but that is for another post.

Here are my Love You and Thank You cards for this week.  There are several of both themes.....

and this last one is trying to be different.  Maybe it is a bit odd........ hm?

(Not) OWH sketch #152 - Thank You

Lately I've been trying out some of the OWH sketches that I had not done yet.  This is one that started out as an OWH sketch and then went off on it's own.  This started as sketch 152.

I liked this paper because it is actually using both sides of the same piece.  The gray is wonderful with this shade of purple.  I merely distressed all the squares and sentiment with a pearlescent ink to match.   The sentiment is popped for some interest.

Heartfelt Thanks

Switching gears here.  This time a pair of soft flowers in fall colors.

Morning Misc Cards

Good morning!  There is no special theme for this morning's post.  I'm still digging out from the 4th of July VCMP.  I must have had a good time because there was stuff everywhere!

So this is just a bunch of random cards I made.

These are mostly from scrap clean up.

Ok, off to clean up a bit more.  I'll probably be back later with a few more.  Have a great Saturday!

OWH 4th of July VCMP - Challenge #14

This challenge was sure interesting!  It is hosted by Annette and asked for 2 cards.  One to be made WAY to bulky to be used by a Hero but could be written TO a Hero.

Check out that chunky embellishment!  It looks nice but it is way to thick for our Heroes to send through USPS.... that dang thing needs it's own boat!

The second card is to be the same card without all the bulk and thickness so a Hero can use it to write home.  The flower is soft and can easily slide into an envelope.

4th of July VCMP - Challenge #2

The second challenge of the day is hosted by Michelle and is to make a Thank You card to send to the Heroes.  She also asked for ink spray technique but I don't have any ink sprays so I just went with patriotic papers and embellishments.  The bell is popped for added interest and will hopefully put a smile on the face of a Hero!

Masculine Grateful For You

Here is a little more manly gratitude card.  I was cleaning up some scraps and this just "happened."  I am grateful for when the cards just sometimes happen...... makes up for the days when Mr. Mo-Jo is absent.  So in the box it goes!

OWH Sketch #63

Here is another Operation Write Home sketch that I had not checked off my list.  It looks familiar so I am sure I have done some similar without actually intending to do this sketch.  The butterflies are K&Co and the paper is Colorbok (another oldie moldie pre cut paper).  I did add Dimensional Magic to all the butterflies for just a little extra shine.  Got 6 of these made for the next OWH box.

Pretty Paper Simple

Thank goodness that some paper is just so darn pretty without any help from me!  I had gotten this from an LSS on a huge clearance sale they were having.  One sheet made 9 cards.

ODBD Challenge for March - Thank You!

The challenge ODBD puts out to OWH card makers for the month of March is to make Thank You cards to send to our nation's Heroes so they can thank all who are helping to support them while they are deployed.

Here is mine...... I made 8.  I love the velvet ribbon!  The swirly thing is cut with the Cricut.  And for the Oldie Moldie card makers, the beige DP background I've had for too long.  It is now being useful.

Lovin' those Leftovers! Thank you!

These cards made from leftovers (aka scraps) went together really quickly.  The photo doesn't show it but at least one of the color panels on each card is chalkboard paper so it has a nice texture and not just so plain.

It was easy peasy so I made 3 more!

Leftover Limes Challenge

In the previous post I had made 7 with the lime paper.  It would have been 8 but I made a mess out of one of them.  :(  Anyway, in trying not to add to the scrap pile I used the rest of the papers to make three of these.

OWH Sketch #207

Here is the OWH Sunday Sketch for today!  I'm so jazzed!  I got this one done on the day it came out.  I had wanted to use these 2 papers today because they looked kind of spring/summer-ish, but wasn't sure I could make it work for this sketch.  It is definitely different than any other card I think I've made.  :)

OWH Midweek Throwdown

This week's throwdown is to make Thank You cards for our nation's Heroes to send home.  They often use them to thank organizations and individuals who are sending support and encouragement to them.  In continuing with my inspiration from sketch #170 from Sunday and trying to use up the Fleur de lis' I had already cut, this is a sample of the next stack I am making with various colors and patterns.  I love this deep purple velvet ribbon with the gold edging and the shiny texture of the blue.  These just looks and feels so yummy!

VCMP Feb 2013 - Challenge 1 & 2

I LOVE these Virtual Carmaking Parties that OWH puts on a few times a year!  These are so much fun that I am hopeful to be able to host a card challenge in the future.  The first challenge is from Erika and is looking for zig zags or chevrons.  WHELL!  I searched high and low in all my stuff and had to admit I have no chevron stamps, no chevron punches, no chevron embellishments and no chevron paper.  How the heck did that happen???

So off I go to my big box craft store, which is merely an outpost not a full fledged store to see what I could find.  Um, Nothing!!  How very sad. On the way home I remembered some yummy May Arts chevron ribbon.  I am saaaaved!  How lucky for me that this card also fulfills challenge #2 hosted by Misty and she was looking for animals.  I didn't plan it to be a double and I'm not getting out of making more cards, fear not!  I have enough of this butterfly and medallion (K&Co.) to make 3 more.

ODBD February Challenge - Fruit

The folks at Our Daily Bread Designs offer up a challenge to the OWH cardmakers each month.  There are 2 random draw prizes from ODBD and the prize for OWH is having 2 boxes' shipping cost paid for during that month if 50 cardmakers respond to the challenge.  Here is mine for this month.  The pears were cut with the Cricut (getting warmed up for their challenge), the yellow one being slightly popped and who would think that "using up" something could be exciting?

I used up the last of the black and silver ribbon and the last of the silver sentiment stickers.  YAY!  The goal of course for this year is to USE IT UP.  No gathering dust, no forgotten and unloved supplies.  And it means more cards for our Heroes!

Rebel Challenge: ODBD Five Elements

I really love these cardmaking parties!  I don't know how many challenges I can really do since ALL of my stuff is packed in boxes for moving.  I managed to keep out a few basics so I could play a little this weekend.  Here is the first one I got done.  I know it isn't the first one listed.  The paper piecing one had to have drying time for the bling so it will be posted today.  This card is for the ODBD Challenge.

The challenge is called Five Elements so mine are: embossing, ribbon, die cut, stamping and gemstones.  The die cut is from K&Co and fit the stamp perfect and there were 10 in a pack so 10 cards got made!  Now, on to try and get a few more of these done!  Have fun everyone!

Spring-ish Thank You

I didn't have any Easter cards to post but I wanted to post a Thank You to Jesus for our reason for celebration.  What He did for me over 2000 years ago that allows me to be in the family of God for all eternity deserves rejoicing and thanksgiving and praise much more than all my life could declare.  The beauty of spring, the renewal in spring, the hope in spring announces the love He has for me.  And I give Thanks!

HAPPY EASTER, JESUS!!!

VCMP Challenge #11: Rainforest Color Challenge

Ok, a color challenge.  Green with a splash of color.  In this case the splash is purple.  Kind of tropical colors.  And the paper has a shiney smoothness to it.
