Operation Write Home

I am currently making cards for Operation Write Home, which sends blank handmade cards to deployed servicemen and women. OWH is an amazing organization that ships thousands of cards each month to our nation's Heroes so they have something to write home on. Please check out the tag on the sidebar for more information on this inspiring mission. Please join me in supporting our men and women who sacrifice for us all.

Veteran's Day Patriotic Card Challenge

Tonight Ann M. tossed out a challenge on SS FB page to make Patriotic Cards for Veteran's Day.  Well, this Veteran has a couple of vintage looking ones to toss into the ring.  In my family I have had a father, uncle, brother, cousins, brother-in-law and niece all serve.  And I currently have a sister and a niece both in active service.  My family IS Patriotic!  :)  Happy Veteran's Day to all who have served!

MWT - Any Hero Card with Stars

I think pretty much the Any Hero cards I've made lately all have stars on them.  It just seems right to have some stars for our Heroes.   Check out the glossy gel letters!  :)

OWH 4th of July VCMP - Challenge #12

I know it is Tuesday the 8th but I am determined to finish these challenges!  So, here is challenge #12 hosted by Tami.  She challenged us to make a red, white and blue Christmas card.  The ornaments were cut with the Cricut and I didn't add a sentiment because the textured background kind of says it all!  :)  Maybe I will make a few more of these for the box.....

OWH 4th of July VCMP - Challenge #4

This challenge which is hosted by Lori was fun.  Red, white and blue birthday cards.  Why not?  It is our country's birthday.  I might make more of these to go in the next box to Operation Write Home.

4th of July VCMP - Challenge #2

The second challenge of the day is hosted by Michelle and is to make a Thank You card to send to the Heroes.  She also asked for ink spray technique but I don't have any ink sprays so I just went with patriotic papers and embellishments.  The bell is popped for added interest and will hopefully put a smile on the face of a Hero!

Hero Cards

It is odd how I can be just stumped over making a card and then Poof!  It's a card!  I know this one isn't fancy but, my toys and supplies are all packed up for moving and I had to dig into a few things just to get this stuff.  The gold and blue stars were punched from shiny paper.  I made 6 and if I can find more of the stars paper I will make another set.  This will give me some to write in while on the road.

VCMP Challenge #10: Vintage and Challenge #12: Boats and Ships

I really didn't plan it this way, but I will take a happy coincidence.  This image is from my Tidbits Trinkets file.  I just love these old war posters.  The frame is made from very old Printworks Christmas stickers.  So old I had to glue them on! LOL!

VCMP Challenge #9 - Sketch #86

This challenge is all about the Heroes we make these cards for at Operation Write Home.  Sandy challenged us to make Any Hero cards using sketch #86 (and to make lots of them!)  Here is my version for Heroes who make us proud and keep us safe.  Anyone know of a good source of USA/Patriotic paper?  Where I live it is in very limited supply.

2nd Starburst Red White and Blue

This was my 2nd attempt at the Starburst card.  I started this one last night and finished it this morning.  It has been raining since early this morning so I have had to wait until a break in the clouds to get some sunlight.

Happy Veteran's and Rememberance Day

Happy Veteran's Day to Americans and Rememberance Day to Canadians! I am running like a crazy woman getting things ready for my surgery tomorrow, but I just had to make a card for our Heroes. The sentiment came from Create with TLC, she posted it as a freebie some time back. Thank you, Paulette.

OWH - Free digi from Hodge Podge

This digi was drawn by Margaret Oesterreicher over at Hodge Podge and donated to OWH for the Birthday Bash. I felt the simple lines of the hat didn't need a fussy card. Thank you, Margaret for being a part of the celebration!

OWH - Free digi from Heather

This image was donated to the Operation Write Home Birthday Bash by Heather Dennis. I love this image and would love to just make tons of cards with it for our Heroes! Big thanks to you, Heather!

OWH - Rick's Patriotic Digi

This is a fabulous digi by Rick St. Dennis, donated to the OWH Birthday Bash. I thought he simply good with denim and surrounded by the Stars and Stripes. I am going to use this as an Any Hero Card as well.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY USA!

I made this card for both the Operation Write Home Blog Tour and for Kajikit's Fireworks Challenge. Whew! With working so much I have to combine them if I can. This is a very old die cut set I made years ago and they were just perfect for today. It is a firecracker that was just a bit big for the card, but I hope you get the jist of it. Happy 4th of July to everyone on the Blog Tour!

S&S Challenge #21 and Bring Out Your Bling

I'm not so sure there is a good way for me to get a picture of this card, but after multiple tries this will have to do. This card would work for the Midweek Throwdown as well with that great silver glitter. It is fused into the paper so no chance of any flaking at all. Great stuff! Need to get more.

Patriotic Bear

This is my "after" Memorial Day card. I was still in the mood for the Red, White and Blue and he looks like he still wants to celebrate, too.

Memorial Weekend Upate

I had the opportunity to cruise the Operation Write Home Blog Hop and see so many inspiring creations and listen to some incredible stories of service men and women. I didn't list my blog for the hop since I am still getting the hang of this blogging thing. Maybe next time I will be able to as I get the hang of this.

I made some cards last night as you can see by the following post and intend to make more tonight as well. I am amazed at how many wonderful ideas were out there and some I will be re-visiting to CASE their creations for sure. I hope everyone that allowed us to hop through their blogs knows how much it was appreciated.

Now...... on to making those Red, White and Blue cards to send out this week!

Memorial Weekend

For me this weekend will be about making cards for Operation Write Home. Since I live in Canada, the holiday is not quite the same, at least as far as typical activities. I, however, am a VET and have many members of my family who have served, including a niece that just left Bagram AB, literally hours before the recent attack on the installation. I have no parades or services to attend... not even a barbeque celebrating the freedoms our service men and women have secured for me. But, this day is not lost on me. I know in my heart how precious it all is and so this weekend in honor of our troops far away and at home and from Canada who serve and die alongside Americans, I remember, I pray, I thank God and I make cards.

This first card is one I did not make but was sent to me by the President of Operation Write Home, Sandy Allnock. So many thanks to you, Sandy, and all your precious team that make this way of reaching out to our service men and women and their families they miss so dearly.

I will be adding to this post all weekend as I get the cards made. Have a blessed weekend!

Here we go!

Lightening Challenge: Armed Forces Day!

I have two cards to add to the Any Hero Challenge. The first looks a little pink, but, it really is a light red. This is lightening for me since I didn't even find out about it until late this evening. I didn't want to call it a day until I answered the call to the challenge. Making cards late at night is sometimes a bit scary!
