Operation Write Home

I am currently making cards for Operation Write Home, which sends blank handmade cards to deployed servicemen and women. OWH is an amazing organization that ships thousands of cards each month to our nation's Heroes so they have something to write home on. Midweek Throwdown - Christmas in July

I had my very first experience with a Cuttlebug at a scrapbook store in Calgary. I don't get in to town that far very often, but, decided to purchase a membership so I could try out all the new toys and see how they work. With a pile paper in hand I spent a few hours testing and playing with their Cricut and Cuttlebug. I had one on the left and one on the right! Multi-tasking is essential when the store is not anywhere near my beaten paths.

Ok, enough rambling. On to my Christmas card. This was embossed with the Cuttlebug, direct inked, clear embossed, direct inked again and clear embossed again and then direct inked to give the background some extra color. The ink is shimmery so this really looks twinkly. Then I punched the snowflakes, added a touch of glitter glue which I coated with Dimensional Magic so it wouldn't even think of flaking, and set the bling in. They are raised on 3-d dots to look like snowfall.

That's really neat how you dry embossed and then heat embossed the snowflake pattern. I just recently got a Cuddle Bug as an early birthday present and am going to have to try that out!!

Beautiful card...thanks for sharing how you got the effect as I too just bought myself a Cuttlebug and love it, so will have to try your technique.
However, don't really understand the direct ink and embossing again
...using the Cuttlebug ? or was it heat embossed the second time.

Wowzers this is beautiful! Sounds like a lot of hard work! I was trying to follow the direct ink process too.

Thanks for sharing this beautiful piece of work!

I love snowflakes and especially liked how you highlighted a few by raising them off the card and using gems.
