Operation Write Home

I am currently making cards for Operation Write Home, which sends blank handmade cards to deployed servicemen and women. OWH is an amazing organization that ships thousands of cards each month to our nation's Heroes so they have something to write home on. Please check out the tag on the sidebar for more information on this inspiring mission. Please join me in supporting our men and women who sacrifice for us all.

Upcoming Mother's Day

All the Mother's Day cards had been sent to OWH over a month ago so the Heroes would get them in time to send back for their mothers.  Here are a few that I included in the box.

And yes, I was using up a bunch of the scraps I had and pre-cut Cricut shapes.  I think it worked out pretty well.

Since I am in the middle of packing for a move, most of my supplies are in boxes.  Pooh.  I guess I will just make some basic ones and add any needed embellishments or bling when I get there and find it.  How to make cards and pack???? Not easy that's for sure!

Tutorial 101: Using scraps

This week Sandy wanted us to "Wrangle our Scraps."  Those nice bits and pieces that we just can't seem to part with.  Well here are some that I took off the pile and put onto cards.  This first one uses sketch #31 which works so well for this project.  This could also qualify for Oldie Moldie Monday since both pattern papers must have been from my scrapbooking days long ago.  The background paper is a soft sand, the digi is from Paula and the frame is a snowflake cut on the Cricut.

This second set were all made with scraps based on the recent sketch #117.  This one is great for all those long skinny pieces.

OWH MWT - Color Challenge

This week's challenge at Stars and Stamps blog is color.  The colors are brown and turquoise.  This one was fun to do.  This is the finished card and the following shows a bit of how I got there.  It was made with some small note cards I got at the local craft store, 12 in a pack for $.50.
I cut the back off the card and trimmed the front so that it could be mounted on the back giving it the white frame.
Then I cut the flap off the envelope, put a small dab of glue inside to keep it shut and mounted the butterfly onto the envelope.
The glitter heart is from a doller store sticker set that is 3D glitter swirls.  I cut the heart off the clear plastic sheet and put a heavy coat of Dimensional Magic on it to seal it.

The stamp is from the local craft store dollar bin and then I just added the butterflies.  Yay!  There it is!

Sketch Challenge #117

The OWH sketch challenge for this can be found here.  I am glad I tried this one.  It came together quicker than I thought it would at first.  The sentiment is from Paula (I love this one!) who has made some wonderful freebie digi's for us to use for our Heroes.  The sentiment is mounted on a snowflake that was cut on a Cricut.

OWH Make Em Laugh bloghop!

This blog hop has been so much fun!  Lots of great participants and inspiration.  I was having 'pun' block and then I saw Barb's card which is so friggin' cute!  I got all motivated and dug out this image that was sent to me in a gift box a long time ago so I have no idea who the maker is.  If you haven't checked out the blog hop, you should.  It is for a very worthy cause and shows off the wonderful partnering companies that OWH is blessed to have.

Spring-ish Thank You

I didn't have any Easter cards to post but I wanted to post a Thank You to Jesus for our reason for celebration.  What He did for me over 2000 years ago that allows me to be in the family of God for all eternity deserves rejoicing and thanksgiving and praise much more than all my life could declare.  The beauty of spring, the renewal in spring, the hope in spring announces the love He has for me.  And I give Thanks!

HAPPY EASTER, JESUS!!!

S&S Sketch Challenge #112

Follow the link to see the sketch challenge that was actually for March 11, 2012.  I am not doing them in order but am attempting to work my way through them.  I love this sentiment.  It came from Create with TLC.  The frame is popped and some tiny bling is added.  Simple.  To the point.

MWT - Thinking of You

This week's MidWeek Throwdown is to make Thinking of You cards.  These are one of my favs since we know that our Heroes think of home to make deployment life bearable.  The two embellisments are popped chipboard and although they have glitter they have been sealed in Dimensional Magic and scratch tested for security.
