Operation Write Home

I am currently making cards for Operation Write Home, which sends blank handmade cards to deployed servicemen and women. OWH is an amazing organization that ships thousands of cards each month to our nation's Heroes so they have something to write home on. Please check out the tag on the sidebar for more information on this inspiring mission. Please join me in supporting our men and women who sacrifice for us all.

OWH Midweek Throwdown - So Sentimental

This challenge is to make the sentiment the focal point of the card.  I also tried to incorporate the lesson from May's Design Bootcamp in using 2 shapes of frames, the brads and the velvet ribbon.

OWH Sketch Challenge #173

I love this sketch!  It lets me mix and match papers and colors without being too stressed.  (Did that make sense?)  It also works well for me to make more than one at a time to try not to have much for leftovers.  I made 4 of these.   The stamp is JRL Design.

Design Bootcamp and OSW Tutorial Challenge

Seongsook did the featured tutorial at OWH this week and it was on the One Sheet Wonder idea.  These dozen cards were all made from one 12x12 sheet.  They are all the same as she mentioned at the end of the tutorial.  I just thought this paper worked best cut this way due to the random pattern.

Also, I re-read the Bootcamp tutorial for this month and decided to try to work these 2 tutorials together.  This month's class was discussing variation.  I was hoping that the silk ribbon, the white frame and the raised button together fit the homework instructions.  I think I want to try a few other of the examples of variation as well.

The sentiment is a free digi from TLC Creations.

VCMP Challenge #4 - Card From Scrapbook Layout

This was an interesting challenge hosted by Nancy at Scrap Happens!  It was to make an A2 card for OWH using a scrapbook layout in honor of National Scrapbooking Day.  I found this layout on a Google search and it inspired my card.  The sentiment on my card is a free digi made by Paula.

ODBD May Challenge & OWH Sketch #171

These 2 challenges were part of the Virtual Cardmaking Party last weekend at OWH Stars and Stamps blog.  The ODBD challenge was for a "missing you" type card and the design is using the OWH sketch #171

VCMP Be a Rebel! Sketch + Kids Challenge

This weekend as scrapbookers everywhere are celebrating National Scrapbooking Day, OWH says "Be a Rebel!" and make cards for our nation's Heroes instead.  I got off to a late start having to take care of lots of chores out here on the farm, but, the challenges are not date specific so I am getting started on mine today.

Paula is hosting the second challenge and it is to make kids cards using a sketch.  I chose OWH sketch #85 for my card.  I went for the boys or girls type card and popped the sentiment and some stars for fun and interest.

OWH Midweek Throwdown

This week's throwdown is to make Thank You cards for our nation's Heroes to send home.  They often use them to thank organizations and individuals who are sending support and encouragement to them.  In continuing with my inspiration from sketch #170 from Sunday and trying to use up the Fleur de lis' I had already cut, this is a sample of the next stack I am making with various colors and patterns.  I love this deep purple velvet ribbon with the gold edging and the shiny texture of the blue.  These just looks and feels so yummy!

OWH Sunday Sketch #170

I just fell in love with this sketch and I'm thinking this might become one of my go-to sketches when the mo-jo is running thin.  I didn't add a sentiment because for Operation Write Home general cards, being less specific for a theme can be used any time, any season.  I had the Fleur de lis cut outs (Cricut) already on hand and it made quick work of these cards.
