Operation Write Home

I am currently making cards for Operation Write Home, which sends blank handmade cards to deployed servicemen and women. OWH is an amazing organization that ships thousands of cards each month to our nation's Heroes so they have something to write home on. Please check out the tag on the sidebar for more information on this inspiring mission. Please join me in supporting our men and women who sacrifice for us all.

OWH - Sparkle Creations Fall Card

Sparkle Creations Rubber Stamps hosted a challenge for OWH this month and it was to make a fall card. As we head into the end of the year these will be in high demand and are probably in short supply. The rules for OWH state NO glitter so the nice shiny stip down the side is a ribbon to give a little twinkle (and matching the leaf brad) with no flaking! The dark piece has a copper-look shimmer built right into the paper as well.

OWH - Case Barb

In this challenge I was to CASE one of Barb's (from Paper Therapy Ponderings) cards. I chose this card because I was inspired by the colors and the plain dark silhouette in the fancy frame. I hope she likes what I came up with.

This is mine.

OWH - Free digi from Hodge Podge

This digi was drawn by Margaret Oesterreicher over at Hodge Podge and donated to OWH for the Birthday Bash. I felt the simple lines of the hat didn't need a fussy card. Thank you, Margaret for being a part of the celebration!

OWH - Purple + Penguin + Old Paper

The challenge for the OWH Birthday Bash sponsored by Paper Therapy Ponderings was to use a penguin image, use shades of purple and to use some old paper laying around in your stash. I absolutely love this penguin and purple was easy to add since it really helps add to the feeling it is cold. And the old paper is actually trees with snow on it. It came from one of those old packs that had seasons in it. Most of the paper is down right scary and I wonder how it got in my pile! But this snow covered trees found new purpose with my penguin

OWH - Free digi from Heather

This image was donated to the Operation Write Home Birthday Bash by Heather Dennis. I love this image and would love to just make tons of cards with it for our Heroes! Big thanks to you, Heather!

OWH and Bits of Cheer Birthday Challenge

Sherry Hickey, from Bits of Cheer blog, donated this wonderful digi for the OWH Birthday Bash celebration and challenged us to make Birthday Cards. He is such a cheery chef, he was a wonderful contribution to the party! Thank you, Sherry!

RAK and Buttons

This was a fun card to make. It is made entirely out of RAK items. The patterned paper and amazing buttons were from Kajikit and the senntiment came to me in a swap. How cool is that? I am using it for two challenges, one for Operation Write Home and also Stamp Haven's Harvest Home Haven celebration. The card will be sent to OWH to hopefully brighten a soldier's day.

OWH - Rick's Patriotic Digi

This is a fabulous digi by Rick St. Dennis, donated to the OWH Birthday Bash. I thought he simply good with denim and surrounded by the Stars and Stripes. I am going to use this as an Any Hero Card as well.

OWH - Distressing Tutorial Challenge

This was a fun one to play with. I don't know if it looks distressed with the colors I chose, but I did follow the tutorial and all the steps. I used Brilliance twilight tri color ink and generic silver ink. Thanks to Beverly for sharing is wonderful technique!

OWH- Googlie Challenge

I had never tried the Googlies until now. This image from TLC Creations seemed like just the right one to try it out on.

CASE one of Martie's Cards

This was supposed to be a CASE. When I opened the post today what caught my eye was stripes and the big square focal point in the center of one of her cards. So, this is what I came up with.

FB Birthday Bash! The last challenge....Show Off a Sticker!

This challenge asked to focus on a sticker. I had to laugh! Now she wants stickers! So, this is made from 3 different sets of stickers, even the leaf panels are 2 stickers.

FB Birthday Bash! Challenge #7: Love makes the world go round!

I wish the scan would show that the sentiments on this paper are all embossed. It looks so cool! The "Love" is an epoxy sticker with an inked bit of paper behind it for color and the letters are brush stickers. It looks a bit manly, eh?

FB Birthday Bash! Challenge #6: Sentiment Only!

This is made from a vellum printed sentiment mounted on the colored paper. The butterfly is a delicate outline sticker that I placed on the blue/purple paper and then cut out.

FB Birthday Bash! Challenge #5: Bling it up!

Now how fun is this? A bling challenge! Not to worry about the traces of glitter on the image, they are encased in Dimensional Magic for security. This one was quick and fun!

Birthday Bash Challenge: Angel Wings

This is for a challenge over at Sandy's blog, It's a colorful world. I made this one from a reeeeeally old stamp that no longer even had it's wood. She is a pretty gal and well worth keeping.

Meljen's Recipe Challenge #25

I made this one last night after getting home from my very first card making party (with real people, inside joke!). I just loved the digi flowers. These were made with a paper flower underneath, the digi flower and a paper flower on top. The recipe called for 2 flowers, 3 brads and 1 ribbon. Thanks to Meljens for the lovely digi flower that I think I will use often.

FB Birthday Bash! Challenge #4: Oh baby!

Oh, My Gosh! This was made from scraps! Well, the beautiful sentiment came from TLC Creations, which totally made this easier to do. The idea for this card was to be one sent TO the child. While they won't be able to read it now, they would know later that their parent was thinking of them while they were in such a tough place. Kind of like a keepsake.

FB Birthday Bash! Challenge #2: Indian Summer

I joined in the Facebook party a bit late, but wanted to try some of the challenges I missed. This one is for the Indian Summer. Up here in Alberta, the sunflowers are standing tall right now, telling winter to stay away a bit longer.

FB Birthday Bash! Challenge #3: Pick a Sketch

Having not finished my first cup of coffee this morning, I just jumped right in to the current challenge at the Facebook Birthday Bash! It is from today's Stars and Stamps Sketch Challenge #35. I guess I had better go make another one to post at S&S!

Fall Thank You Challenge - OWH Birthday Bash!

Trying to find a minute anywhere I can to get some cards made for the Birthday Bash here is my short story for today. I got up, made a pot of coffee, put hair dye in my hair (eeek!!!) then sat down to whip out a card while it was setting. This was the result. Embossed leaves randomly colored with chalks and the really nice sheer ribbon. Washed out my hair, took this pic and now must get ready for work. Obsessed with card making? You tell me! Our Heroes are worth it!

Hero Arts OWHBash Challenges

I wish I had had more time to play with these talented gals this weekend, but, the farm had lots of needs and unfortunately none of them included cutting and pasting paper. Here are the 3 I did get done.

This first one was for the Just Words Challenge.

This one was for Punch Your Art Out.

This one was for 3 of A Kind.

CASE Kate

This Challenge was to CASE Kate, the featured cardmaker for Sept 3rd. I went to her blog and found this great entry on Dealing With Difficult Paper. The card she made was simple and I loved the idea of using what might have been considered unusable paper. The paper I chose was some left over some a few other cards I had made a while back, but I immediately thought of it when I read this article. Here is Kate's....

And here is mine. She had a nice small circle punch (which I didn't have) so my circles are all hand cut and thus had to be bigger in order to EVEN get them round. I will hang on to her sample and absolutely use it in the future. Thanks Kate!

S&S Sketch #34 Challenge

This is the second one I made at 5am this morning. The rain is just coming down! Now, you might look at this card and say I didn't follow the instructions, but I would have to say I followed most of them...... #1 it is yellow. I looked and couldn't find any yellow patterned paper, hm? That was weird. #2 it started out with the same layout but just didn't work with this paper, so it got adjusted. #3 it is a Thank You card like the sample. #4 it has a little weed looking flower on it. #4 it has embellishment as requested AND most important #5 it has 2, count 'em, 2 stamps on it! LOL! It is a joke for those who know my cards. Anyway, it was fun to make at the wee hours this morning.

Red, White and Blue Christmas - Ciara

I just had to make one more of the very cute Ciara. I was up at 5am this morning listening to the rain wash away my chances of having a card making party today. Out here on the farm we currently have no real gravel road so mud boggin' is the only way in and out. The "City Girls" who were coming wouldn't have gotten within a half mile. At least I have the whole month left to reschedule.

S&S Family Challenge from Ciara

Our most FAVORITE Sandy at Operation Write Home was pressured by Ciara make an image of her all dressed for the Heroes and the Holidays! What a great talent and a great image! The one on the right is not mounted on the brown but the scan won't show the white, so I had to make a background. The sun is not up so no pics with the camera until tomorrow. Then I can update these.

Midweek Throwdown - Halloween Challenge

Kicking off the month of celebrating Operation Write Home is this challenge. This really was a bit of a challenge since I don't normally celebrate Halloween.
