Operation Write Home

I am currently making cards for Operation Write Home, which sends blank handmade cards to deployed servicemen and women. OWH is an amazing organization that ships thousands of cards each month to our nation's Heroes so they have something to write home on. Please check out the tag on the sidebar for more information on this inspiring mission. Please join me in supporting our men and women who sacrifice for us all.

Sketch Challenge #110

Oh! My gosh!  Julie, over at Operation Write Home Stars and Stamps blog asked me to make some samples for the Sunday Sketch Challenge!  Can we say excited and scared???  Anyone who has actually read some of my blog posts knows that I get mo-jo block trying to do the weekly sketches.  Scared because this was a HUGE challenge that more than one person will be looking at.  Excited because I was asked AND because I didn't chicken out.

This is the first one I made.  I'd love to tell you papers and such but I usually just start hacking away and I think they were actually quite old.  The sentiment was from a swap about 2 years ago and I wish I knew the maker because I would sure like this one!  (Gosh this could qualify for an Oldie Moldie Monday card!)  The flourish was made on a Cricut and then 3 layers of clear embossing powder were applied.  It gave it thickness and a slick-er texture.

This one I do know where the sentiment came from.  A wonderful shop called River City Rubber Works.  They have some great patriotic stamps over there as well.

And now for my real challenge.........

To make a children's card as well!  The red stripes on the paper are shiny so it is extra bright that way. I took the side embellishments from the tail on Donald's hat.  I just freehand cut it and got matching buttons.  Donald is from the Mickey Mouse paper that is just a bunch of head shots of all the characters.

Yay! I made it through.  I hope you are inspired and thank you for stopping by to see them!  Now go make some cards for our Heroes!  :)

Mother's Day on the way!

Here are a bunch of the Mother's Day cards I made that got shipped out today on their way to Sandy.

I know a lot seem to have butterflies but I cut out a bunch and Mom's like butterflies not just flowers!  well, I did do some with flowers too.  With butterflies!! Ha!

Color change!  I know they all look a bit stripey but I was in the scrap box when I made these.  Thank goodness for yummy ribbon and bright buttons.
This one had the flowers and doily instead.  Not too bad for a start.  On to the next bunch!

Sketch Challenge #109

I'm so excited to get a sketch done!  I'm thinking that "one day" I might try to work my way through them all.... HA!

MWT - Mother's Day Challenge

I've been making Mother's Day cards for the past few weeks for shipping out tomorrow.  They have to get to the shipper in time for advanced shipping to the Heroes.  This one I'm posting for the Midweek Challenge.  I'll be posting a bunch more in just a little bit.

VCMP Challenge #13: Embossing

I like the embossing folders for how special they make a card look and are so easy to do.  I decided to make mine for Mom since the Mother's Day dealine is coming soon.

VCMP Challenge #5: It's a Party! Birthday Cards

This birthday card was inspired by Paula and her take on it.  I loved the simplicity so here is mine.  The image is a Whipper Snapper sticker from the "old stash."

Any Hero Card

How about an Any Hero card?  The America image is from Create with TLC and the Statue of Liberty is from an amazing stamp site called River City Rubber Works.

VCMP Challenge #10: Vintage and Challenge #12: Boats and Ships

I really didn't plan it this way, but I will take a happy coincidence.  This image is from my Tidbits Trinkets file.  I just love these old war posters.  The frame is made from very old Printworks Christmas stickers.  So old I had to glue them on! LOL!

VCMP Challenge #11: Rainforest Color Challenge

Ok, a color challenge.  Green with a splash of color.  In this case the splash is purple.  Kind of tropical colors.  And the paper has a shiney smoothness to it.

VCMP Challenge #2: Masculine Nautical

I really did these challenges out of order!  Eeek!  I was inspired to leave the image black and white by a lighthouse card that was posted.  It really works for this type of image.  This one is great for the multiples as well.  This image is from Create with TLC.

VCMP Challenge #8: Jungle Animals

This one was a real challenge for me since I don't normally do coloring of images and certainly not this kind.  This lion is from MelJen's who makes wonderful whimsical images.   I colored him with pencils.

VCMP Challenge #9: Cut it Out!

This challenge we were asked to make a card using die cuts or punches.  So I used both!  The die cut is the heart cut with the Cricut and the punch is the black lace.  The cream colored lace is real lace.

VCMP Challenge #6: Sand and Sea

This challenge was to make a card with Brown and Blue in it.  Any theme, any sentiment.  Ok.  :)

VCMP Challenge #7: CAS

Per OWH S&S blog....."Sometimes less is more and that's what this challenge to create a CLEAN AND SIMPLE card is all about."  Sounds good to me!  So here is tidy and simple.  The embellishment is chipboard, attached with 3-d dots and the twinkly parts on it were sealed with Dimensional Magic to keep our Heroes safe.

February ODBD Challenge - Yummy Ribbon

This month the challenge sponsored by Our Daily Bread Designs is to use yummy ribbon.  For every 25 cards posted ODBD pays for the shipping of one box to our Heroes.  One card per person is allowed so I made mine for a little girl using the pretty white and gold ribbon.

Beachy-Thinking of You

I am doing these out of order!  EEEk!  Oh, well maybe doing it this way won't be so restrictive on the mo-jo.  :)  Anyway, these are made with Mini Fresh Cuts by Rebecca Sower.  The best part about these challenges is that I seem to dig into the long forgotten stash.  Then I get inspired to use it all up so I don't have to put it away again.  So I will make duplicates of this one till they are all gone.  Yay!

Hot Tropics Challenge

The challenge at OWH last night was to make a card using pink, yellow and green.  While the sample card looked tropical that was not a requirement.  Since Mother's Day cards are coming in need I decided to stick with the current theme.  The flowers are an old Susan Branch sticker, add some celebrations stickers with a little bling and that ought to make a Mom happy!

Cean and Simple Skip

This weekend started off with a Clean and Simple Skip at the OWH S&S blog.  Clean and simple should be easy but it tends to frustrate.  I need more practice!  and that is not a bad thing!  :)  The silver and wine paper are both shiny so they add a nice contrast to the black.

Go Red For Women!

On FB today the challenge was posted to make a red card in support of fighting heart disease in women.  So here is a big flower with lots of love for OUR hearts!
