Operation Write Home

I am currently making cards for Operation Write Home, which sends blank handmade cards to deployed servicemen and women. OWH is an amazing organization that ships thousands of cards each month to our nation's Heroes so they have something to write home on. Please check out the tag on the sidebar for more information on this inspiring mission. Please join me in supporting our men and women who sacrifice for us all.

Sketch Challenge #110

Oh! My gosh!  Julie, over at Operation Write Home Stars and Stamps blog asked me to make some samples for the Sunday Sketch Challenge!  Can we say excited and scared???  Anyone who has actually read some of my blog posts knows that I get mo-jo block trying to do the weekly sketches.  Scared because this was a HUGE challenge that more than one person will be looking at.  Excited because I was asked AND because I didn't chicken out.

This is the first one I made.  I'd love to tell you papers and such but I usually just start hacking away and I think they were actually quite old.  The sentiment was from a swap about 2 years ago and I wish I knew the maker because I would sure like this one!  (Gosh this could qualify for an Oldie Moldie Monday card!)  The flourish was made on a Cricut and then 3 layers of clear embossing powder were applied.  It gave it thickness and a slick-er texture.

This one I do know where the sentiment came from.  A wonderful shop called River City Rubber Works.  They have some great patriotic stamps over there as well.

And now for my real challenge.........

To make a children's card as well!  The red stripes on the paper are shiny so it is extra bright that way. I took the side embellishments from the tail on Donald's hat.  I just freehand cut it and got matching buttons.  Donald is from the Mickey Mouse paper that is just a bunch of head shots of all the characters.

Yay! I made it through.  I hope you are inspired and thank you for stopping by to see them!  Now go make some cards for our Heroes!  :)

Wow am I inspired. Your cards are fantastic. There was no mo-jo block with any of your cards. I love how you folded over the ribbon on the cards - very nice touch and the Donald Duck card with the tails like his hat is just perfect. I like to sentiments on all your cards but the first is my favorite. On your first card I like how you added the embossing powder on the flourish to make it stand out. I like the soft colors of DP you used on the second card -- I can't pick a favorite. Thanks for starting us out with such wonderful inspiration on this Sunday Morning!
